On May 21, U.S. Consul General Peter Haas joined a live fusion cooking demonstration to promote Washington Apples. The Consul General cooked side-by-side with celebrity chef Amrita Raichand. The Washington Apple Commission, in association with Star Bazaar, is conducting a month-long promotion in 15 Star Bazaar stores in Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Aurangabad and Kolhapur. The promotion will introduce to the Indian market new Washington Apple varieties such as Jonagold, Cripps Pink, Cameo, and Braeburn. U.S. apple exports to India now range from $70 to $100 million annually, and India is one of the largest overseas markets for U.S. apples.
